Misdiagnoses

What can be mistaken for pudendal neuralgia?  

 

Common conditions that could mimic pudendal neuralgia include:

  • Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction

  • Piriformis Syndrome

  • Ischial Bursitis

  • Interstitial Cystitis (IC) (an urgent need to urinate)

  • Chronic or non-bacterial Prostatitis (inflammation of prostate gland)

  • Prostatodynia (prostatitis symptoms without the condition)

  • Vulvodynia (chronic pain condition of the vulva lasts more than 3 months, no known cause)

  • Vulvar Vestibulitis syndrome (aka adenitis or focal vulvitis characterized by entry dyspareunia, discomfort at the opening of the vagina)

  • Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome CPPS (Pain in the area below the belly button and between the hips that lasts six months or longer):

             Symptoms:  Internal and/or external such as uterus ache, vaginal bleeding or

             discharge, as well as fever, nausea, vomiting, sweating, and/or dizziness)

             Causes: Endometriosis, Uterine Fibroid's.
